This year’s three-day event kicks off on April 24, with NCAA stars like Cam Ward of Miami being among the names expected to be called by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell off the bat, with the former Hurricanes star coming off a senior season where he threw for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns, finishing fourth in the Heisman Trophy race.

According to the latest mock draft from Field Yates of ESPN.com, Ward is currently projected to go third overall to the New York Giants, behind Heisman winner Travis Hunter of Colorado and Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter, with the former being picked by the Tennessee Titans while the latter goes to the Cleveland Browns.

Yates’ ESPN colleague Mel Kiper currently has Ward as the fifth best prospect in the class, sandwiched between CU quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, with Hunter, Carter and Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham being the top three players in the draft class overall.

Titans, Browns Could Land Cam Ward

After a long and winding NCAA career that included stops at FCS program Incarnate Ward, FBS outpost Washington State and finally the Miami Hurricanes, Ward’s next stop will be the NFL, with countless teams in the 32-team league longing to get the 22-year-old Texan on their roster.

Of that collective, the NFL team with the best odds of landing Ward on our board is the Browns, who hold the No. 2 pick in the draft, with the AFC North franchise coming in at +100 to draft the former Hurricanes star, while the Giants are listed at +200 apiece and the Titans at +800.

The Las Vegas Raiders - currently slotted in to pick sixth in the first round of the NFL Draft on April 24 - just traded for veteran Geno Smith, while Giants slot in behind the Titans  and Browns at No. 3 in the 32-pick first round.

Whichever NFL team ultimately lands Ward this draft cycle is getting a player that’s capable of shredding opposing secondaries with ease, as the former UM star looks to parlay his one season of excellence with the Hurricanes into a longstanding career in the pro ranks.
