The Best TV Shows Set In Florida

Outside of the sunny skies of California, there likely hasn’t been a place in America that’s drawn the attention of television and movie producers the way that the Sunshine State has over the years, with countless shows set in the state of Florida.

Whether it be the classic TV hit “The Golden Girls,” which was set in Miami and more modern hits like Apple TV’s “Palm Royale” (set in Palm Beach), Netflix's hit show “Bloodline” (set in Islamorada) and the ABC sitcom “Cougar Town” (set in Gulfhaven), Florida’s favorite locally set show runs the gamut, history wise, illustrating the state’s longstanding connection with the little screen.

World Television Day is November 21. To celebrate, FloridaBet.com took a beat from Florida sports betting to find the best shows set in the state. We used IMDB ratings, Rotten Tomatoes Audience score, Rotten Tomatoes Critic score, and awards recognition to create a weighted scoring system.

Which FL Show Do Locals Love Most?

Scoring a total of 146 points, the classic TV show “The Golden Girls” finished atop Florida’s favorite show list, with 146 points to nearly triple the next closest contender, which was “Palm Royale” with 56 points in total.

Throw in “Bloodline” (44 points), “Cougar Town” (42 points) and “I Dream Of Jeannie” (31 points) and you have the upper end of the Florida TV shows list, while “The Finder” (23 points), “Shaq’s Big Challenge” (21 points), “American Horror Story: Freak Show” (20 points), “It’s Florida, Man” (13 points) and “Wayne” (12 points) rounded out the top 10 for the Sunshine State.

At the end of the day, none of the 10 held nearly the level of zeitgeist sway that NBC’s 180-episode sitcom has, despite the fact that “The Golden Girls” went off the air in 1992, more than three decades before most of the rest of the list made it onto the screen in the first place.
