After capturing the school’s first men’s basketball national championship since 2007, it’s worth wondering what the future has in store for members of the Florida Gators. Utilizing Basketball-Reference.com, FloridaBet.com found out how the last 15 National Champions (since 2010) have performed the next season, a trend to be aware of across Florida sports betting.

Since 2010, the average season after a national championship in NCAA men’s basketball has been solid but not earth-shattering, with the last 14 champs posting an average record of 26-10 with one repeat winner among the lot (UConn in 2024).
Overall, recent tourney winners have exited the Big Dance in the second round the most often, with 54.5% of champions exiting during the Round of 32 the year after winning it all, with 11 of the 14 teams surveyed (or 78.6%) making it back into the NCAA Tournament after winning it all the year before.
Next year, Florida head coach Todd Golden will have to get creative to find the type of production that got the Gators over the hump in 2025, with leading scorer Walter Clayton Jr. graduating and UF’s leading rebounder (Alex Condon) likely entering the NBA Draft after averaging 10.6 points and 7.5 boards per game this year.
Luckily for Golden and company, UF has two four-star recruits signed on to play in Gainesville next year, with ESPN 100 prospects Cornelius Ingram Jr. and Alexander Lloyd committing to the SEC institution, with more bound to do the same out of the NCAA transfer portal in the coming days and weeks.
For now, Gators fans can revel in being the first SEC member to cut down the nets at the Final Four since John Calipari led the Kentucky Wildcats to glory back in 2012, with Florida escaping San Antonio with a 65-63 thriller of a win over the Houston Cougars in Monday night’s title tilt.
Oh by the way, the Gators of course went back-to-back in 2007...
