The market appears to be wide open for the Canadian-born Holland, who turns 25 next week. In his four seasons with the Dolphins, Holland played in 60 games and started in 57. He’s picked off five passes, including one in 2023 he returned 99 yards for a touchdown.

Holland did miss time due to a knee injury in 2023, and 2024 was a down year for him. He did not pick off a pass and his 62 tackles in 15 games were a career low. Still, quarterbacks completed just 54.2% of the passes to receivers he covered last season. That was a career best for him, as was the 89.0 QB Rating on passes he defended.

NFL.com rated Holland as its 17th best free agent available, noting he should be the best safety available. Should he resign with the Dolphins, he would be part of a team that has odds of +6000 to with the Super Bowl next February according to Hard Rock Bet FL.

Why The Vikings Are The Favorite

Several teams will likely line up to offer Holland a contract, so he should have his plenty of choices. However, we believe the Minnesota Vikings make sense for a couple of reasons.

For starters, their defense gave up 4,114 passing yards last season. That was the fifth highest among NFL teams. The Vikings defense did lead the league with 24 interceptions, but several of their leading defensive backs are free agents this spring – including Pro Bowler Byron Murphy – so Minnesota team officials may need to find replacements via free agency.

Another reason why the Vikings should be considered the favorite is that they have plenty of salary cap space available right now. According to overthecap.com, the team has $63.3 million in cap space. Only six teams have more. While the Vikes will need to decide if they want to keep Sam Darnold, they’ll still should have plenty of money remaining to fill other needs.
